Volunteer with Vale of Clwyd Scouts
We are looking for people to join us. Not just leaders — we need all kinds of volunteers across all kinds of roles, from working directly with young people in a section to helping behind the scenes with everything from fundraising to digital, events to equipment.
You do not need a Scout background. You do not need to be available every week. You just need to want to make a difference for young people in your community.
There is a role here for you
Whether you want to roll up your sleeves at weekly section meetings, bring a specific skill to one of our district teams, or just help out at an event or two, we have something that works around your life.
We run sections for young people aged 4 to 18 across eight groups in the Vale — from Rhyl and Prestatyn to Denbigh, Rhuddlan, and Carmel. Behind those sections, a growing team of district volunteers keeps things running and pushes the programme forward.
How it works
Browse the opportunities below and find something that interests you. If you are not sure where you fit, that is absolutely fine — fill in the form and tell us a bit about yourself and we will find the right place for you.
All volunteers are supported through a straightforward joining process. We will be with you every step of the way.

Volunteer with a group

1st Carmel
1st Carmel might be a smaller group, but we punch well above our weight. We run Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts for young people aged 6 to 14 in Carmel, with a programme that puts the outdoors and adventure front and centre. We are looking for volunteers who want to be part of something genuinely rewarding in a tight-knit local community.
If you have got a love of the outdoors, a useful skill, or simply want to make a difference for young people in Carmel, we would love to talk to you.

1st Denbigh
1st Denbigh runs Cubs and Scouts for young people aged 8 to 14 in Denbigh and the surrounding area. We are a dedicated team working hard to give young people here the same brilliant Scouting experience as anywhere else in the Vale — and we want more volunteers to help us do that.
We are particularly keen to grow what we offer in Denbigh, and new volunteers make that possible. If you are based in or around Denbigh and want to get involved, please get in touch — we would be delighted to hear from you.

1st Rhyl
1st Rhyl has been delivering Scouting in the heart of Rhyl for years, and today we run Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts for young people aged 4 to 14. We are a committed team who care deeply about what we do, and we are looking for more volunteers to help us keep giving young people in Rhyl the adventures and opportunities they deserve.
If you live or work in Rhyl and want to give something back, this is a great way to do it. We welcome volunteers at all levels of commitment — come along, see what we are about, and take it from there.

2nd Rhyl
2nd Rhyl runs Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts for young people aged 6 to 14 across Rhyl. We are a friendly, enthusiastic group with a packed programme and a team that genuinely loves what they do. We are looking for volunteers to join us across all three sections — people who want to make a real difference for young people in their community.
No Scout background required. No need to commit to every session. Just come and see what we are about — we think you will want to stay.

1st Rhuddlan
1st Rhuddlan is a close-knit group running Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts for young people aged 4 to 14 in Rhuddlan and the surrounding area. We are proud of what we offer young people locally and we are always glad to welcome new volunteers into the fold.
Whether you can make it every week or just want to help out when you can, there is a role for you here. Get in touch and we will have a chat about what would work.

3rd Prestatyn
3rd Prestatyn is one of Prestatyn’s most active Scout groups, running Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts for young people aged 4 to 14. From their very first adventure as a Squirrel to earning badges and going on camp as a Scout, young people at 3rd Prestatyn get a brilliant Scouting experience — and that is down to the volunteers who show up for them every week.
We are looking for people to join our team across all four sections. Whether you want to work directly with young people or support the group in other ways, there is a place here for you. No experience needed — just enthusiasm and a bit of time.

6th Prestatyn
At 6th Prestatyn we run four sections — Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts — giving young people in Prestatyn aged 4 to 14 the chance to explore, learn, and grow. It is a busy, friendly group with a programme that young people love, and we are always looking for new volunteers to be part of it.
You do not need to have been involved in Scouting before. If you have got something to offer — whether that is a skill, some spare time on a weekday evening, or just a willingness to get stuck in — we would love to hear from you.
Volunteer with a section

Squirrels
(ages 4 to 6)
Squirrels is our newest section and one of the most rewarding places to volunteer in Scouting. You will be working with children aged 4 to 6 — many of them having their very first experience of Scouts — helping them explore, create, and discover the world around them. Sessions are short, fun, and full of energy, and the impact you have on young children at this age is genuinely lasting.
We have Squirrels sections at 3rd Prestatyn, 6th Prestatyn, 1st Rhyl, and 1st Rhuddlan. If you want to be part of something that matters right from the very start of a young person’s Scouting journey, we would love to hear from you.

Beavers
(ages 6 to 8)
Beavers is where young people aged 6 to 8 start to find their feet — trying new things, making friends, and discovering what they are capable of. As a Beavers volunteer, you will help deliver a programme packed with games, crafts, outdoor adventures, and community activities. It is lively, it is fun, and no two sessions are ever quite the same.
We have Beavers sections across 3rd Prestatyn, 6th Prestatyn, 1st Rhyl, 1st Rhuddlan, 2nd Rhyl, and 1st Carmel. Whether you want a regular weekly role or just want to help out when you can, there is a place for you in one of our Beavers teams.

Cubs
(ages 8 to 10½)
Cubs gives young people aged 8 to 10½ the chance to push themselves, work as a team, and take on challenges they never thought they could. It is one of the most popular sections to volunteer with — the programme is varied and exciting, the young people are full of energy, and there is always something to get stuck into.
We have Cubs sections at 3rd Prestatyn, 6th Prestatyn, 1st Rhyl, 1st Rhuddlan, 2nd Rhyl, 1st Carmel, and 1st Denbigh. If you want to be part of a team that helps young people grow in confidence and take on the world, Cubs is a great place to start.

Scouts
(ages 10½ to 14)
Scouts is where things really open up. Young people aged 10½ to 14 take on bigger challenges, go on camps and expeditions, work towards top awards, and start to shape their own programme. As a Scouts volunteer, you will play a real part in some genuinely memorable experiences — the kind that young people talk about for years.
We have Scout sections at 3rd Prestatyn, 6th Prestatyn, 1st Rhyl, 1st Rhuddlan, 2nd Rhyl, 1st Carmel, and 1st Denbigh. If you want to work with young people at a brilliant stage of their development and help them take on real adventures, we would love to have you on board.

Explorers
(ages 14 to 18)
Explorers is Scouting for young people aged 14 to 18 — and it is seriously good. Explorer Scouts take on expeditions, work towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and King’s Scout Award, get involved in international opportunities, and take real ownership of their programme. Volunteering with Explorers means working with young people who are passionate, driven, and ready to push their limits.
We have two Explorer Scout Units in the Vale — Bobcats ESU and Gwylanod ESU. If you want to work with older young people and help them achieve things they will be proud of for the rest of their lives, this is the section for you.

Scout Network Lead
(ages 18 to 24)
Build and lead the Vale of Clwyd Scout Network for young people aged 18 to 25. A ground-floor opportunity to shape something lasting in the district. Want to lead on this? Express your interest today.
