Explorers gives young people aged 14 to 18 real independence and the chance to take on serious challenges — Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, King’s Scout Award, expeditions, and international opportunities. Volunteering with Explorers is a great fit for anyone who wants to work with older young people and help them push their limits.
Where we need volunteers
We currently have Explorers sections in the following groups across the Vale. Express your interest and we will match you to a group that suits you.
- Bobcats ESU (Rhyl)
- Gwylanod ESU (Prestatyn)
What you’ll do
- Work with young people aged 14 to 18 to deliver an exciting, badge-rich Explorers programme
- Plan and run weekly section meetings, camps, hikes, and special activities
- Support young people in achieving their awards and badges
- Be a positive, encouraging presence and help young people grow in confidence
- Work as part of a team — you will never be running things on your own
Flexible volunteering
You do not have to commit to every week to make a real difference. We welcome Team Members who want a regular role, volunteers who can help at events or camps, and people who want to start as a helper and see how things go. Tell us what works for you.
Joining as a Section Team Member
- DBS (criminal record) check — we will help you through this
- Scout internal check
- Growing Roots learning (online modules covering safeguarding, inclusion, and the Scout programme)
- First Response first aid certificate (training available through the district)
- Welcome conversation with a district volunteer
No Scout experience needed. No qualifications required. Just bring enthusiasm and we will take care of the rest.
