Today marked an exciting milestone for Vale of Clwyd Scouts as we kicked off our first District Event of 2025 — the Squirrels & Beavers Junk Modelling Event!
Held on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Prestatyn, the event welcomed around 40 young people from all corners of the district, including groups from Carmel, Rhuddlan, Rhyl and Prestatyn. With every group with Squirrels and Beavers sections represented, the event was a brilliant opportunity to come together, make friends, and get creative.
The young people spent the afternoon designing and building imaginative, vehicle-inspired creations using recycled materials, showcasing fantastic teamwork and creativity. Alongside the junk modelling, the afternoon was packed with fun games and the buzz of new friendships forming.
Jacob Jones, District Lead Volunteer, shared his thoughts on the success of the event:
“District Events like this are so important to allow our young people from right across the district to come together, make new friends, memories and experiences.
“I feel very privileged today to be a part of a district full of such enthusiastic leaders and volunteers who help make sure that events like these can run.”
As well as being a fun and social afternoon, today’s activity also contributes towards the Builder badge for both Squirrels and Beavers — a perfect example of learning through doing.
This event marks the beginning of a new era of regular and exciting district opportunities for our youngest members. We’re already looking forward to next month’s event — the return of the much-anticipated Cub Pioneering Competition!
