Last night, under the evening sky on the beach outside the Nova in Prestatyn, Vova Dzhulai, aged 16, of Gwylanod Explorer Scouts was presented with his Chief Scout’s Platinum Award by District Lead Volunteer, Jacob Jones. The presentation formed part of a special final meeting as the Explorers celebrated their last night together before the summer break.

The Chief Scout’s Platinum Award is the highest accolade an Explorer Scout can earn and marks a significant milestone on their Scouting journey. It recognises a young person’s commitment, resilience, and determination—qualities that Vova has consistently demonstrated throughout his time with the Explorers.

To earn the award, Vova completed a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Taking part in nights away and adventurous activities
  • Volunteering and making a positive impact in the local community
  • Developing new skills and interests
  • Planning and undertaking an expedition in unfamiliar terrain

Each section of the award takes time, planning, and perseverance—and achieving it is no small feat. Vova’s success is a reflection not only of his personal dedication but also the support and encouragement of his fellow Explorers and leaders at Gwylanod.

Jacob Jones, who presented the award, said:

“It was a privilege to present this award to Vova. He’s shown real commitment to everything Scouting stands for—community, challenge, and adventure. We’re incredibly proud of him.”

As the sun set on another fantastic term for Gwylanod Explorers, the moment served as a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve through hard work, determination, and the support of their Scouting family.

Congratulations, Vova!
