Meet our Youth Leads
As part of the Vale of Clwyd Scouts Youth Team, our District Youth Leads play a vital role in making sure Scouting across the district is genuinely youth shaped.
Isaac Jones and Joseph Steel work alongside the District Leadership Team to represent the views, ideas, and priorities of young people. Their role helps ensure that decisions, programmes, and opportunities across the district reflect what young people want from Scouting, now and in the future.

Joseph Steel

Joseph started Scouting with 1st Rhyl Scouts and later moved into Bobcats ESU. He brings a strong sense of teamwork, commitment, and practical leadership to the Youth Team.
Joseph is motivated by supporting others to thrive in Scouting and is especially interested in helping young people understand how they can influence decisions and get more involved beyond their section.

Isaac Jones

Isaac began his Scouting journey with 2nd Rhyl Scouts before progressing to Bobcats Explorer Scout Unit. Through his time in Scouting, Isaac has taken part in a wide range of activities, developed leadership skills, and grown into a positive role model for younger members.
Isaac is particularly passionate about youth voice and empowerment. He is keen to help young people feel confident to share their ideas and to see that their views can lead to real change within Scouting.
What District Youth Leads do
District Youth Leads are youth representatives who help embed youth involvement at every level of the district. Isaac and Joseph:
- Contribute youth perspectives to District planning and decision making
- Represent the voices of young people within the District
- Support Explorer Scouts and Network members to develop confidence and leadership skills
- Help shape events, activities, and programmes so they are led by youth, for youth
- Promote meaningful youth involvement in meetings, projects, and governance
- Act as a link between young people, sections, and the District Team
They work collaboratively with adult volunteers, ensuring youth voice is part of everyday Scouting rather than an add on.
How they can support you
Isaac and Joseph can support young people, sections, and leaders across Vale of Clwyd Scouts. You might involve them if you:
- Want youth input into a District or local event
- Are looking to strengthen youth leadership or youth forums
- Have young people interested in getting involved at District, Area, or National level
- Want advice on making meetings or planning more youth friendly
- Would like support embedding youth shaped decision making in your section or team
They are also always keen to hear directly from young people about what is working well and what could be improved.
The You-Shape Award

At Scouts, young people learn how to speak up and take the lead. But they told us that the programme didn’t recognise this enough. That’s what the new YouShape Award is all about.
Support from Area

Aimee Curtis is our Area Youth Lead. She supports our Youth Leads at a District Level and pushes forwarded Youth Voice from the top down.
