Volunteering Development Team

The Volunteering Development Team supports adults across Vale of Clwyd Scouts to start, grow, and thrive in their volunteering journey.

The team works closely with Group, District, and Area volunteers to make sure people feel welcomed, supported, and confident in their roles. From first enquiry through to ongoing development, their focus is on creating a positive volunteering experience that helps Scouting deliver safely, effectively, and with impact.

Volunteering Development is not just about processes or compliance. It is about people. The team is there to encourage, guide, and support volunteers so they can give young people the best possible Scouting experience.

What the Volunteering Development Team does

The Volunteering Development Team plays a key role in strengthening Scouting across the district by:

  • Helping volunteers understand their roles and feel confident in what is expected of them
  • Supporting new volunteers to join Scouting, from first contact through to getting started
  • Supporting learning, training, and personal development opportunities
  • Working with teams to identify skills, strengths, and areas for growth
  • Encouraging good volunteer wellbeing and positive volunteer experiences
  • Supporting Groups and Sections during periods of change or challenge
  • Helping build strong, inclusive, and sustainable volunteer teams

They work collaboratively with leaders, trustees, and other district teams to ensure volunteers feel valued and supported at every stage.

How they can support you

The Volunteering Development Team can support you if you:

  • Are new to volunteering in Scouting and want guidance or reassurance
  • Are looking to develop your skills or take on a new role
  • Need support recruiting or welcoming new volunteers into your team
  • Want help identifying learning or development opportunities
  • Are experiencing challenges within your volunteer role or team
  • Want advice on volunteer wellbeing, retention, or succession planning

Their role is to help volunteers succeed, not to judge or manage performance. Support is always offered in a constructive, friendly, and person centred way.

Working together

Strong volunteering makes strong Scouting. By investing in people and supporting their development, the Volunteering Development Team helps ensure Scouting across Vale of Clwyd Scouts is welcoming, inclusive, and ready to offer brilliant opportunities for young people.
