Vale of Clwyd Scouts are beaming with pride as one of our youngest members, six-year-old Charlotte “Lottie” Dawson from 1st Rhuddlan, has been awarded the prestigious Chief Scout’s Unsung Heroes Award.
Lottie was one of just 20 young people across the UK to receive the honour, which celebrates Scouts who go above and beyond to help others, overcome personal challenges, and embody the values of Scouting in everything they do.
Back in May, she received the award at a special ceremony at Gilwell Park, the home of UK Scouting, where she was presented with her certificate by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields. The event celebrated children and young people from across the UK who’ve made an outstanding impact in their groups and communities.
“I am very happy to have received the Chief Scout’s Unsung Heroes Award,” said Lottie. “I had the best day at Gilwell Park – my favourite activity was crate stacking. I hope to be a Scout leader one day… or maybe even the Chief Scout!”
A True Inspiration in Rhuddlan
Lottie began her Scouting journey as a Squirrel Scout, where she was recognised early on for her caring nature and endless energy. Since joining Beavers, she has taken on a leadership role among her peers – always offering help, supporting new members, and taking part in every activity with enthusiasm.
Lottie’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Born with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), she underwent surgery and spent twelve weeks in a full-body cast. Despite the setback, she returned to Scouts with her trademark determination and joy, inspiring everyone around her.
“Lottie is a shining example of what it means to be a Scout,” said Donna Musgrove, Lottie’s Beaver leader. “She’s resilient, kind, and endlessly positive. Her energy lifts the room, and she’s always first to help others.”
Rhian Moore, Chief Volunteer for ScoutsCymru, added:
“Her resilience, enthusiasm and care for others are inspiring. Lottie truly embodies the spirit of Scouting, and we can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next.”
Jacob Jones, Lead Volunteer for Vale of Clwyd Scouts, shared:
“Lottie’s story is an incredibly inspirational one. Having seen her first hand during her Beaver Sessions, I can concur that Lottie is a strong, resilient individual full of positivity. She truly embodies what it is to be a Scout. We are all extremely proud of Lottie”.
