We are deeply saddened to share that Chas Jenkins, our dedicated Explorer Scout Leader, has passed away. Chas gave so much to Scouting in the Vale of Clwyd, especially through his role with Bobcats ESU (formally 2R-ESU). He was a constant source of encouragement and a true friend to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His enthusiasm, kindness and absolute commitment to giving young people opportunities to grow and thrive have left a lasting impact on our district and our community.
Even when he became ill, Chas still showed up week after week with his trademark positivity, humour and enthusiasm. He continued to attend camps and even celebrated his birthday this year at Camp Clwyd, surrounded by the people and the movement he loved. He is a true inspiration and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
As we come together to support one another during this difficult time, we hold his family and friends, especially Jan, in our thoughts. We ask that everyone respects the privacy of Jan and her family while they navigate their loss. Chas will be greatly missed. His spirit and legacy will continue to shine brightly in the many lives he touched. He has Gone Home, may he rest in peace.
Chas began his Scouting journey more than 16 years ago when he and his wife Jan stepped in at short notice to help on an Explorer camp. From that moment they never looked back. Together they helped hundreds of young people move through the unit, taking it from strength to strength, while proudly supporting their own three sons, Jonathon, Matthew and Daniel, through their Scouting adventures too.
He was one of a kind. Hilarious, with expert wit and timing. His campfires were legendary, his dad jokes iconic, his ability to tell stories formidable and his passion for Scouting was infectious. Chas brought joy and laughter wherever he went and leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
Thank you Chas, for everything.
