We’re please to share that we’re in the very early stages of exploring something exciting…bringing Scouting back to St Asaph.
Right now, this is just an idea. A conversation. A “what if?”. But every great adventure starts somewhere.
Before we can move any further, we need to understand two things:
👦👧 Is there interest from young people and families who would love to join?
🙋♀️🙋♂️ Are there adults locally who would like to get involved and help make it happen?
Why Scouts?
Scouts is all about helping young people gain skills for life.
From outdoor adventures and camps, to teamwork challenges, creative projects and learning new practical skills, we give young people the chance to build confidence, resilience and friendships that last.
It’s not just about camping and knots, though we do love those too. It’s about belonging, trying new things, and growing into capable, kind and confident young people.
We run sections for different age groups, from Squirrels and Beavers through to Scouts and Explorers, so there are opportunities for children and young people aged 4 to 18.
We need volunteers too
To reopen a Scout Group, we need a team of local adults to help shape and run it.
You don’t need to have been a Scout. You don’t need to be outdoorsy. You don’t even need to work directly with young people if that’s not your thing.
There are lots of different roles, including:
• Section Team Members who help deliver fun weekly activities
• Occasional helpers who can lend a hand when they’re free
• Admin support, looking after emails or records
• Treasurer or finance support
• Fundraising and community engagement
• Equipment and stores support
• Trustees to help guide the group and keep things running smoothly
Full training and ongoing support is provided. You’ll be part of a wider District team, so you won’t be on your own. Many volunteers tell us they gain just as much as the young people do.
Even if you can only offer a little time, it could make a huge difference.
Venues and ideas
As we’re right at the beginning of this journey, we’d also love suggestions for possible venues in St Asaph where a group could meet.
Community centres, church halls, school spaces, sports clubs, anywhere that might be suitable for a weekly evening session. If you have ideas or contacts, please share them.
If you’d be interested in your child joining, or if you’d like to explore volunteering, please comment below or send me a message. At this stage we’re simply gauging interest and starting conversations.
If there’s enough local support, we can start turning this early idea into something real for St Asaph.
